The public vote on the guide international mixology Difford's Guide has crowned the Rosalia cocktail, created by the bartender Chiara Mascellaro, as “Margarita of the Year” at the PATRÓN Perfectionists Margarita of the Year 2021Already elected Italian finalist of the famous global competition PATRÓN Perfectionists in 2020, Chiara Mascellaro, from Palermo, participated in the research launched online on the dedicated platform on Difford's Guide That involved 45 international finalists from previous editions of the PATRÓN Perfectionists.
Contestants were asked to create their own twist on the Margarita from a list of internationally available ingredients that could be easily recreated at home by the public who would vote on them. The challenge was launched on February 22nd, for International Margarita Day, and voting closed on March 10, when Rosalia emerged as the most voted cocktail among 45 entries. The initiative grew out of the existing format of Margarita of the Year, an annual contest launched by PATRÓN in 2015 that calls on select bartenders around the world to create their own interpretation of the classic drink. For 2021, Margarita of the Year has engaged the PATRÓN Perfectionists network to provide an additional platform for support and inspiration for the community during this critical time.
Chiara Mascellaro's creation, Rosalia, offers a delicate and fragrant version of the Margarita, in which thebalance between the citrus part and the sweet part is revisited and achieved through floral and herbaceous notes, demonstrating the versatility of PATRÓN tequila and the Margarita cocktail. Highlighting the citrus and vegetal notes of PATRÓN Silver, Rosalia offers a balanced mix with rose scents, the bitter profile of bitters and the acidic touch of lemon. A fresh recipe that demonstrates how quality ingredients combined with creativity can give life to a winning cocktail with global prestige such as that of the PATRÓN Perfectionists Margarita of the Year. Rosalia is also a cocktail with a cause, inspired by women (and named after the patron saint of Palermo, Santa Rosalia) and created by Mascellaro on the occasion of the month of prevention of cervical cancer.
The winner, Chiara Mascellaro, commented: “I am very happy with the result I brought home with my Rosalia. This cocktail represents a cause that is very close to my heart, such as prevention and It is a true dedication to the female world. The challenge of the PATRÓN Perfectionists Margarita of the Year was a further opportunity to test my creativity at a time when our sector and our profession of bartenders need to be valued more than ever. Experimenting with new flavors and bringing this cocktail to life has been very motivating. But not only that, it has also allowed me to be in constant contact with my Perfectionist colleagues and friends from all over the world with whom we form a very close-knit and supportive group. The passion and dedication we have for the world of mixed drinks and the bar unite us and encourage us to share our ideas and stories, wherever we are in the world.
