A place with two faces
A Palermo institution. This could be described as such, having opened ten years ago opposite the Teatro Massimo and not far from the Vucciria Market. Its name pays homage to one of its two partners' passion for Piaggio's iconic vintage scooter: the Vespa. The contemporary interiors feature distinctive decorative objects, such as hot air balloons, airplanes, globes, and gorillas, meticulously selected and tastefully combined. While the establishment is well-known in the city for its extensive aperitivo—comprising platters and a quality first course—with the arrival of bar manager Nunzio Prestana, assisted by his brother Davide and bartender Michele Stagno, many customers choose Il Vespa for its mixology offerings, which focus on classics revisited with local ingredients, such as Marsala or rosolio, and fresh ingredients, often used in shrubs, vinegars, and cordials. On Mondays, after 11 p.m., the venue transforms into a speakeasy, each time changing its decor and drink menu. The focus shifts to mixology, and consequently, the clientele changes as well.
