Whisky first and foremost
Whisky and beer. These are the two focuses of Italy's first cask bar, opened twenty years ago in Rome and reopened in 2020 with a new look in the Monteverde neighborhood, south of Trastevere. While the two focuses remain the same, this new venture has placed greater emphasis on cocktails, now overseen by bar manager Luca Sammarco. The spacious, Old English-style spaces are divided into a large terrace and three rooms, dominated by wood—the bar and bottle rack, stocked with over 400 whiskey labels—and leather—Chester chairs and sofas. The drinks menu appeals to both lovers of innovation and classics. The menu features established signature cocktails: punches, a blend of alcohol, lemon, sugar, water/tea, and spices; classics, including forgotten ones like the Last Word; and finally, signature drinks, which vary seasonally and are almost always twists on classics. While the alcoholic base is almost always whisky, gin, or a South American spirit, it is mixed with seasonal and homemade fruit, such as syrups and cordials.
